The much anticipated Trusts Bill was introduced to parliament on 1 August 2017 and is currently on its first reading. Once the bill receives Royal Asset there will be an 18-month transition period before the new rules apply to existing family trusts. It is therefore timely to review the proposed trust bill and how it will impact new and existing trusts.
